The Eight Trigrams

A combination of three bits, when represented as a gua figure, is called a trigram.

In the third split of the cosmic egg, each of the four bigrams evolves into two variants - "symmetric" and "asymmetric", thus forming the eight trigrams.

In the xiantian arrangement, the symmetric trigrams occupy the four "pure" positions while the asymmetric trigrams occupy the intermediate ones:
